Police say they recovered stolen property and drugs from a home where the man had been saying and seized a vehicle and $5,000 in cash.

WATAUGA, Texas — A man suspected of stealing more than $37,000 in merchandise from Target stores in 14 cities across North Texas in the span of two months was arrested this week after a brief standoff, police say.

The arrest happened after officers were called to a Target store in the 8000 block of Denton Highway in Watauga around 5 p.m. on Halloween, where store employees had reported a man had stolen more than $1,200 worth of Lego merchandise and fled the scene, officials say.

Officers found the suspect, later identified as Winston Love, 28, at a home he’d been staying in a short time later, where he was taken into custody without incident after a brief standoff with police, according to a press release.

Love was charged with state jail felony theft and was found to have eight outstanding felony warrants for theft-related charges from Tarrant, Dallas, and Rockwall counties, officials say. Love was then taken to the North Richland Hills Detention Center, police say.

Police searched the home where Love had been staying, where they recovered more stolen items and illegal narcotics, according to a press release. Officers also seized a vehicle and about $5,000 in cash, police said.

Love is suspected of stealing more than $37,000 in merchandise from Target stores across 14 cities in North Texas over the last two months, officials say.

Police say Love is believed to be part of a retail theft ring operating in Texas and Oklahoma.

Officials say the investigation into the thefts is ongoing and additional charges may be filed as evidence is processed.Â
