ARLINGTON, Texas — As the FIFA World Cup 26 approaches, the Arlington Police Department has detailed its security plans to ensure the safety of fans and the city.

The department has been preparing since Arlington was named a host city four years ago, according to a press release from the Arlington Police Department. Chief of Police Al Jones emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “The World Cup is, without question, the biggest yet. I believe we and all our public safety partners will rise to the moment.”

The Arlington Police Department’s Event Management Unit visited the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to understand the event’s scale and security needs. Collaborations with FIFA, the North Texas FWC Organizing Committee, and various public safety partners have been ongoing to coordinate resources and develop a comprehensive safety plan.

Dallas Stadium in Arlington will host nine matches, more than any other North American city. On match days, fans can expect a substantial law enforcement presence in the Arlington Entertainment District, surpassing that of typical Cowboys games or major concerts. The department will deploy both uniformed and plainclothes officers, along with technology such as drones and street cameras, to monitor crowds.

To maintain citywide safety, over 30 outside agencies will assist APD officers, ensuring normal police staffing for emergencies elsewhere in the city. Chief Jones reassured residents, stating, “If you need help and you call 911 during the World Cup, an APD officer will be available to respond.”

Drone restrictions will be enforced around Dallas Stadium, with unauthorized drones prohibited within a three-nautical mile radius and up to 3,000 feet above ground level. Violators face fines, drone confiscation, and potential federal charges.

Fans are advised to allow extra time for travel to the stadium, as temporary road closures and secured areas will be in effect. The City of Arlington will facilitate efficient entry and exit from the Entertainment District. Fans should verify their tickets for correct entrance locations and avoid purchasing from unlicensed vendors.
