While preparing for its upcoming super regional against Oregon, the Texas baseball team has also addressed an offseason need.
On Wednesday, former Texas Tech infielder Linkin Garcia announced that he is transferring to Texas. Garcia becomes the first player that Texas has snagged this year from the transfer portal, which opened for baseball players Monday.
As a freshman this spring, Garcia started in all 55 of Texas Tech’s games. The California product hit .338 with 59 RBIs and 53 runs scored.
Defensively, Garcia split his starts between third base (24) and shortstop (31). He posted a .944 fielding percentage with nine errors.
Since Adrian Rodriguez is just a sophomore, Texas is set at the shortstop position next season. But fifth-year senior Temo Becerra, who started at three different spots in the infield while also not missing a game this season, is nearing the end of his collegiate career. Junior infielders Casey Borba and Ethan Mendoza are also eligible for the MLB Draft.
