The Explorers competed against 23 other Explorer and Public Safety Cadet teams from various law enforcement agencies across the state, and earned themselves some top honors in the process.
KPD said the Explorers won first place in Domestic Disturbance and in Physical Fitness in the female category, and took home third place in Active Threat.
“Excellent effort KPD Explorers and Advisors, and Congratulations!” KPD said in a post congratulating the Explorers.
The Killeen Police Department Explorer program is an official program meant to “acquaint young people with the nature and complexity of Law Enforcement,” according to the department.
The program is intended to encourage young people to pursue careers in law enforcement and give the department an opportunity to evaluate each Explorer.
KPD said the Explorer program brings participants and the police department together through meetings, projects, social functions and a ride along program.
