Rodriguez said he graduated from high school in 2025 from El Dorado and recently earned his associate degree from El Paso Community College.

Rodriguez said he hopes to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and is considering doing it at the University of Texas at El Paso.

Rodriguez said his early boxing career required constant travel, often by car, because his father did not like flying.

“Ever since I was young, my mom, my father took me all around the United States driving,” Rodriguez said, adding that he got used to leaving school to compete and returning “on Monday like nothing ever happened.”

Looking ahead, Rodriguez is hoping to make the 2028 Olympics and is weighing when to turn professional.

Rodriguez said promoters have contacted him about going pro, calling it a dream to support his family, but he wants to pursue the Olympics first.

Rodriguez said, “A dream of mine is always to go to the Olympics. After 2028. I’ll go pro right away.”

Rodriguez also thanked supporters across the region, saying, “Thank you to El Paso,” and adding appreciation for fans in Las Cruces, Odessa, Chicago and Juarez.

“I just want to accomplish my dreams to show that we have talent in El Paso, Texas,” Rodriguez said.
