EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso and Ciudad Juarez leaders met at the El Paso Convention Center for the third annual Binational Council, emphasizing shared economic growth and closer cooperation across the border.
During the meeting, leaders signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening ties between the two cities. El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson said the agreement is “reconfirming that we’re gonna work on economic development, we’re gonna work on a number of initiatives together, climate, air, water, public safety, a number of things we’re gonna work on together.” Johnson added, “We’re very excited that we’ve renewed this, it’s been about six years since we’ve done this.”

Ciudad Juarez Mayor Cruz Perez Cuellar said regional collaboration benefits both communities. “If we do it together, we can be more powerful together, and as a region, so when something good happens in Juarez, it’s good for El Paso,” he said.
Officials said working together as one region can help better support families and businesses on both sides of the border.
