Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene joined Monaco’s Corpus Christi celebrations, a public holiday today in the Principality and an important religious observance in the Catholic calendar.
The princely couple watched the ceremony from a window of the Prince’s Palace overlooking Monaco-Ville following a pontifical Mass at Monaco Cathedral celebrated by Archbishop Dominique-Marie David.
The service was followed by the traditional procession of the Blessed Sacrament through the streets of the old town, passing through Palace Square and the Town Hall Square.
The procession was greeted by the Prince’s Carabinieri Band, which performed the ceremonial honours, before the celebrations concluded with a period of prayer, adoration and a final blessing.
Known today by the Catholic Church as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi celebrates the belief in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and remains one of Monaco’s most significant annual religious events.
