Drivers traveling through downtown San Antonio should expect closures lasting up to three more hours on Thursday, June 4, following an 18-wheeler crash that triggered a hazmat spill on I-35, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
The closure began after the crash around 4:38 a.m., according to the traffic monitoring site SigAlert. The connector ramp from I-35 South’s upper level to the I-10 Lower Level at US-87 is blocked. Residents are urged to exit early at San Pedro to Culebra Road. From there, they can use that ramp to rejoin I-10’s westbound lanes.
Preliminary information from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) indicates that the driver, a 64-year-old man, was unable to stay in one lane because of his speed. The trailer collided with another vehicle driven by a 31-year-old woman, causing the 18-wheeler to tip over. Authorities say both drivers sustained minor injuries, none of which were life-threatening.
Commuters traveling near the collision site should expect longer delays.
