Former Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French prevailed over incumbent Railroad Commissioner Jim Wright in the May 26 runoff.
Across the state, French beat Wright by just 1.2 percentage points, the smallest margin of victory in any of the statewide runoffs on the ballot. Wright had been endorsed by Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, House Speaker Dustin Burrows and other GOP leaders, while French had the backing of several hard-line conservative groups.
In his home county of Tarrant, French’s lead over Wright was larger than at the state level, but only slightly. The runoff was still tight with a 3.8 percentage point margin of victory.
While many precincts in the county were competitive, Wright experienced stronger support around Westover Hills and Texas Christian University, as well as Dalworthington Gardens and parts of Arlington. French led in most precincts on the northern side of the county, from Lake Worth to Grapevine.
