The Kentucky volleyball team faced yet another huge road challenge on Sunday afternoon. And as they have done time and again this season, the Cats were up to said challenge.

Facing No. 2 Texas in front of a packed Gregory Gymnasium in Austin, the Cats not only beat the Longhorns, they swept them. UK dominated the first set, 25-14, then fought hard to win the final two sets 28-26 and 27-25.

Kentucky’s dynamic duo of Brooklyn DeLeye and Eva Hudson led the way once again on Sunday. Hudson had 20 kills and just one error on 42 swings, equating to a .452 hitting percentage. She added 10 digs and two blocks.

DeLeye was also outstanding, notching 18 kills and just three errors on 36 swings, a .417 hitting percentage. DeLeye had nine digs and two blocks.

After the match, Hudson told the ESPN crew what makes this group of Cats so tough.

“That we’re gritty, that we’re going to come out on every point, give it our all,” Hudson said. “I’m just really proud of these girls.”

DeLeye gave credit to her teammates for the victory.

“I think just playing together as a team,” DeLeye said. “We all came together. It looked like we were always getting balls up and communicating throughout the whole match. So that’s really what makes it fun.”

Having a one-two punch makes Kentucky difficult to defend, according to DeLeye.

“I think it’s just really hard to scheme against because across the board our offense, you can’t really leave anybody open because everyone’s going to put the ball away. And I think Kassie (O’Brien) does a great job of getting it to us.”

Hudson believes that she and DeLeye inspire each other and help make each other better.

“We just talk to each other about what’s open and it’s really fun to feed off each other’s energy. It’s hard (on the opponent) because when I go back (row), she’s front row, so we never give them a break.”

Winning in such a hostile environment was definitely tough, according to Hudson.

“That’s a great team and the crowd was electric,” Hudson said. “They made it really hard on us, so it was really hard to play.”

Despite the difficult environment and the outstanding opponent, DeLeye and Hudson again led the Cats to a big-time win on Sunday.
