EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso ISD is planning to eliminate 124 central office positions at the end of this school year, a move that includes jobs such as clerks, warehouse managers, and diagnosticians.

EPISD Deputy Superintendent David Bates said last month that affected staff had been notified.

The cuts are separate from other reductions being discussed in the special board meeting that will be held Thursday night.

EPISD will vote on whether to declare financial exigency, a move that could lead to hundreds of job cuts.

This comes as district leaders have been working to balance the district’s budget by the end of June.

KFOX14 has asked the district how many of the 124 positions were filled and is awaiting a response.

According to the district, EPISD is projecting a roughly $52.8 million shortfall for the current 2025-2026 budget year.

Looking ahead, the district is also projecting a shortfall of roughly $42.1 million for the 2026-2027 budget year.
