DALLAS, Texas (KWTX/CNN Newsource) – A 37-year-old man remains hospitalized after an incident in Dallas involving the theft of a police car, according to police.
Police say Stacey Huffman was pulled over for a traffic stop Saturday evening.
He was arrested on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Investigators said Huffman was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car.
Police say Huffman was able to free his left hand and move into the driver’s seat while officers were outside the vehicle.
One officer got into the backseat and used a Taser, police said. When that did not stop Huffman, the officer struck him in the head with his weapon, according to police.
Police say Huffman later opened the door and rolled out of the moving vehicle. Both Huffman and the officer were taken to the hospital; the officer has since been released.
Police said Huffman will be officially charged after he is released from the hospital. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
