All eyes are on North Texas as two retail giants prepare for their debuts. One of H-E-B’s business rivals recently announced it is setting down roots in a Dallas suburb.
The Ohio-based chain Kroger plans to build in Fate, a booming area along Interstate 30. With a little over 31,000 residents, Fate has been named by the marketplace platform StorageCafe as one of the top 10 fastest-growing cities in the U.S.
According to a state filing submitted on Tuesday, June 2, the business will be located at 735 South William E. Crawford Ave., spanning 99,000 square feet. Although a few well-known brands are in Rockwall County, it will be the first major grocery store within Fate’s city limits.
Customers have a lot to look forward to. John Votava, Kroger’s director of Communications and Public Affairs, tells MySA that investors are pouring $40 million into the project, which will include a café serving sweet treats and beverages, a Murray’s Cheese counter, a pharmacy and more. A fuel center with 14 pumps and a grab-and-go kiosk will also be nearby.
“But most importantly, our great Kroger Marketplace in Fate will create about 200 new jobs for the local community,” Votava said. “These jobs will provide competitive wages, world-class benefits, and a stable pension for retirement.”
Renderings of the new grocery show its sleek exterior design, a pickup section and parking spaces –– all of which will anchor a 70-acre plot of land.
Construction crews broke ground at the site in March and expect to finish their work in May 2027. The staff expects to host a grand opening that same year, according to Votava.
Paperwork for the future Kroger was submitted just days after San Antonio-based H-E-B filed documents for its new store at I-635 and Hillcrest Road, roughly 30 miles east of the Fate property. Upon completion, it will be the company’s first market within the city limits of Dallas. Online records indicate it will cover 127,000 square feet and include a three-story parking garage, underscoring how popular officials expect it to become.
H-E-B has steadily expanded its presence in the DFW region and has no plans to slow down. Likewise, Kroger broke ground in McKinney in February and told MySA that another new North Texas store will be announced soon.
