With its mouthwatering cuisine, community celebrations, and entertainment hubs, there’s a lot to love about San Antonio. Tourists are also discovering the perks of living in the city, with one A-list actor sharing that they’re ready to make a cross-country move.
Movie star Jerry O’Connell, who has held roles in the 1986 classic Stand By Me, the TV series My Secret Identity, and other projects, was in town for Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, June 3. The Spurs fell to the New York Knicks 105-95 at the Frost Bank Center.
Based on his recent social media posts, he appeared to have an incredible time. Posts shared on O’Connell’s X account show him cheesing in selfies inside the Alamo with a live-performance character, then at the entryway with a random San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officer.
“I landed in San Antonio. It’s beautiful, by the way. Everyone should come here, real part of American history,” he said in a video while walking downtown.
Next on O’Connell’s itinerary was a stop along the River Walk. Around 5:45 p.m., he shared a photo of himself with a GoRio Cruise boat, saying he “loves” good ol’ San Antone. After the basketball game, the New York native hit up The Friendly Spot Ice House.
In a post on X, he shared an image of himself sitting at an outdoor table, captioned: “I am moving to San Antonio as soon as @NYKnicks win.” So, if any residents object, they should send all the positive thoughts and prayers to the Spurs players this month.
A spokesperson for the beer garden at 943 S. Alamo St. tells MySA that he was accompanied by friends. They also say he DM’d the company on Thursday, June 4, about his visit. He was later spotted by fans at Southtown’s Bruno’s Dive Bar.
“Said we have an awesome spot,” The Friendly Spot Ice House staff said. “He enjoyed drinks and had a great time with staff,” and mentioned how welcoming they were.
