State Senator Cesar Blanco is asking the Texas Education Agency to provide more clarity on how school funding changes under House Bill 2 are affecting local districts, saying some are seeing estimates that don’t match what lawmakers were told during the legislative session.
In a letter to the TEA, Blanco said some school districts in the cities he represents are receiving funding estimates that differ from what was projected while House Bill 2 was being debated.
Blanco is requesting a district-by-district breakdown explaining what factors may be driving the differences, including tax collections, property values, attendance and other variables.
Blanco said districts need clear information as they make budget decisions that affect students, teachers and programs.
