Deputies are investigating after a vehicle struck a 2-year-old at an east Harris County apartment complex, leaving the child in critical condition.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Deputies are investigating after a toddler was struck by a vehicle Sunday at an apartment complex in east Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said it happened at the Bella Vista apartment complex on Wallisville Road near Purple Sage Road. The child, believed to be 2 years old, was hit by a vehicle and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver remained at the scene, and no additional details about the circumstances of the crash have been released.

This is the second toddler hit by a vehicle in 24 hours. On Saturday night, Houston police say a 3-year-old boy was hit and killed by a pickup truck that left the scene. The truck was later found unoccupied.

This is a developing story. We’ll add more details as we learn them.
