Police said 20-year-old Angel Hernandez is charged with murder in the stabbing death of 19-year-old Hugo Briseno near Everhart Road.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A suspect is now in custody in connection with a fatal stabbing near Everhart Road that left a 19-year-old man dead last week.

The Corpus Christi Police Department confirmed Friday morning that 20-year-old Angel Hernandez has been arrested and charged with murder. Hernandez was also served with a warrant charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said Hernandez and the victim, 19-year-old Hugo Briseno, were known to each other.

The arrest comes one week after officers responded to the 4600 block of Everhart Road around 1:41 a.m. on May 29 following reports of a stabbing.

Investigators said two men had already been taken to a local hospital with stab wounds before officers arrived. Briseno later died from his injuries. A second victim survived.

According to police, the incident began with a disturbance at a nearby business. Those involved were separated and left the area before a second confrontation broke out in a nearby parking lot.

It was during that second altercation that the two men were stabbed, investigators said.

Detectives with the department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit took over the investigation and interviewed several people. Police previously said the individuals involved were acquainted with one another.

The investigation remains ongoing.
