We won’t say that God is on the side of the San Antonio Spurs, but we know the Silver & Black are getting a few more prayers thanks to a group of fans that have captured the hearts of fans everywhere.
The Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco, also known as the “Spurs Nuns,” have embraced Spurs Nation by attending games, praying over players and hosting watch parties, showing the passion that this team means for the entire city. As the Salesian Sisters continue to draw attention from Spurs fans hoping for a little extra good luck during the NBA Finals, the San Antonio Zoo is honoring them with a different kind of gift.
The zoo donated 200 admission tickets to the sisters, allowing them to “bless and share with the families they serve throughout the community,” according to a news release.
“When we saw how much joy the Salesian Sisters were bringing to our community, we knew we wanted to do something special for them,” Tim Morrow, President and CEO of San Antonio Zoo, said in the release. “They’ve become a symbol of positivity during this incredible Spurs playoff run. We hope these tickets give them another opportunity to bless families throughout San Antonio and create meaningful experiences for the people they serve.”
In addition to a gift basket, Morrow and his wife Jen donated a brand new basketball hoop to St. John Bosco School. However they found another donor had already provided a new hoop when they came to install it.
“It was such a wonderful surprise to find out someone else had already stepped up for the Sisters,” Morrow said in the release. “That’s exactly the spirit of San Antonio — people looking out for one another. We’re just glad we could make sure the kids they serve got taken care of, too.”
Game 2 of the NBA Finals tips off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
