Most of Central Texas still in ‘moderate to extreme’ drought despite rain
AUSTIN (KXAN) — An updated drought map released Thursday still shows most counties in the KXAN viewing area are still undergoing a drought, despite recent rains.

The data comes from the U.S. Drought Monitor, which has been online since 1999.

At least 7.5 million Texans live in droughted counties, according to the monitor.
Rainfall since March 3 appears to have lessened Texas’ drought; at that time, 98.89% of Texas were ranked on the map. That’s dropped to 73.88% since then.
Compared to a year ago, more counties are dry or under drought conditions. However, fewer are under an extreme or exceptional drought.

In March, KXAN reported that the Hill Country would need 26.65″ of rain by the end of June to slake the region’s drought.
