The transaction wheel keeps on turning.
A day after the Rangers activated Corey Seager and Wyatt Langford and designated Sam Haggerty for assignment, the club agreed to a major league deal with former All-Star catcher Elias Diaz, two people familiar with the transaction told The Dallas Morning News. Daniel Avarez-Montes of El Extra Base was the first to report the agreement.
Diaz, 35, had been designated for assignment by Kansas City on May 22 but did not elect free agency until Wednesday. He played in only 10 games for the Royals, who have future Hall of Famer Salvador Perez and top catching prospect Carter Jensen. While he hit just .227 in those 10 games, four of his five hits were for extra bases, giving him a .591 slugging percentage for an .852 OPS.
In addition, the Rangers next opponent is Kansas City, so Diaz may have some insight on how to attack Royals hitters.
