AUSTIN, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott is expected to receive a briefing today in Austin regarding Texas’ ongoing response to a confirmed case of New World screwworm in the state.
The briefing will take place at the State Operations Center and will focus on the state’s efforts to contain and respond to the livestock pest, which can pose a serious threat to animals and wildlife. State and federal officials are expected to provide updates on monitoring, prevention, and response measures.

Joining Abbott at the briefing will be Texas Animal Health Commission Executive Director Dr. Lewis “Bud” Dinges, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Executive Director Dr. David Yoskowitz, and Rear Admiral Michael Schmoyer, director of the New World Screwworm Directorate for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
