EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The family of renowned El Paso artist and community advocate Hal Marcus is launching a new foundation dedicated to preserving his legacy and inspiring future generations of artists across the Borderland.
The Hal Marcus Art Foundation, established through the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, will officially launch June 6, coinciding with what would have been Marcus’ 75th birthday.
Marcus, who died in April, was widely recognized for his colorful paintings depicting life in the U.S.-Mexico border region and for his decades of contributions to El Paso’s arts and cultural community.

Foundation leaders say the organization will focus on preserving Marcus’ artistic work while expanding opportunities for local artists and strengthening public access to the arts.
As part of its launch, the Foundation announced three major initiatives aimed at honoring Marcus’ impact on the community.
The first is a memorial mural celebrating his life and artistic contributions. Plans are also underway to establish the Hal Marcus Art Museum, which will showcase his artwork and serve as a cultural resource for residents and visitors. In addition, the Foundation will sponsor a community mosaic project at Dunn Park, inviting public participation in a tribute reflecting Marcus’ commitment to community engagement through art.
Family members say the Foundation is intended to ensure Marcus’ vision, creativity and dedication to El Paso continue to inspire future generations.
