CWS: Which SEC rival will Texas baseball face first in Omaha?

The Texas Longhorns are heading to the College World Series after completing a sweep of the Oregon Ducks in the Austin Super Regionals. UT baseball beat the Ducks 11-3 on Saturday and a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Oregon on Sunday. Now, Texas heads to Omaha to face an SEC rival.

The Longhorn will face the Georgia Bulldogs to open the CWS. Texas will face UGA on Saturday, June 13 at 7 p.m. CT at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.

There are a record five SEC teams among the eight teams in the College World Series. That’s the most any conference has sent to Omaha in one year. So the Horns path to a national title could be filled with familiar foes. Texas and Georgia are joined by Ole Miss, Alabama and Oklahoma.

Ironically, Texas didn’t face Georgia during the regular season. UT faced the other three SEC CWS teams. Texas won its series against all three. The Horns are 2-1 against Ole Miss and Alabama. They swept the Sooners 3-0. OU and Alabama are in Georgia and Texas’ side of the bracket.

The other three teams in Omaha are North Carolina from the ACC, West Virginia from the Big 12 and Cinderella Troy, who finished in a three-way tie for third in the Sun Belt Conference.
