EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Pet owners across El Paso County will have multiple opportunities this summer to protect their furry companions through free microchipping services offered during the county’s upcoming “Parks After Sunset” events.
The El Paso County Animal Welfare Department announced that it will provide up to 75 free microchips at each event on a first-come, first-served basis as part of a partnership with the County’s Parks & Recreation and Sheriff’s Offices. The initiative aims to help reunite lost pets with their owners while encouraging families to enjoy a series of community-centered evening activities.
Running from June 5 through July 17, the “Parks After Sunset” program will feature family-friendly movie screenings, water activities to help residents beat the summer heat, and pet-friendly amenities. Organizers are encouraging residents to bring their pets, provided they remain on a leash throughout the event.
The free microchipping stations will operate from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at six locations across the county:

Animal welfare officials say microchipping is one of the most effective ways to increase the chances of recovering a lost pet. The tiny electronic chip, implanted beneath a pet’s skin, contains a unique identification number that can be scanned by veterinarians and animal shelters.
County officials encourage pet owners to arrive early, as supplies are limited and demand is expected to be high. The events are free and open to the public.
