A Texas developer is investing millions in a new shopping strip on San Antonio’s Far Westside. It’s the area’s latest popularity indicator, revealed in a RentCafe study showing an uptick in housing inventory in recent years.
Residents will soon be able to visit Potranco Square, a retail center coming to 2112 Potranco Road, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing, which is subject to change. Those living in the Crown Meadows and Timber Ridge neighborhoods will be less than two miles from the property. It will be a roughly 10-minute drive from the Alamo Ranch community to the recently opened Westover Hills Baptist Hospital.
Online state records indicate that the shopping strip will occupy roughly 6,100 square feet. Owner and fellow San Antonian Joanna Ayala, DMD, tells MySA that a range of businesses is headed for the space. The space will include Tots to Teens Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, which Ayala also owns, as well as dining and coffee services. Potranco Square LLC will be the developer, and Luna Architecture, the firm behind Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Morgan’s Wonderland, will design the exterior.
Ayala describes the region as one of the fastest-growing in the city. She noted that neighborhoods continue to be built nearby, and many young families are choosing the area for their starter homes.
“As a family-focused business, it was important for us to be located where we could best serve the community,” Ayala said. “The Potranco corridor offers convenient access for residents from surrounding neighborhoods and is quickly becoming a hub for new retail, healthcare, and professional services.”
Construction crews plan to break ground at the site this September. Ayala said the project is expected to be completed in summer 2027. Renderings for the plaza show a sleek brown-and-white finish. The documents indicate the plaza will have more than six tenants.
“We are excited to be part of the area’s growth and look forward to serving families in the West Side community for many years to come,” Ayala said.
There’s more in store for Far Westside neighbors. A large Target is in the works at Marbach Road and Loop 1604 and should be finished by next spring. In addition, Santikos Entertainment is building what some call “The Rim Part Two” off State Highway 211. It’s set to feature not only movie screens but also bowling lanes, an arcade, and nearby shopping.
