It was a stormy weekend in North Texas, but some parts of the metro area got more rain than others.
At DFW International Airport, almost 4.6 inches of rain were recorded between Friday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Combined with rain earlier in the week, the airport has experienced over 7 inches of rain in the first week of June, about twice the full month’s average of 3.7 inches.
The airport wasn’t the only spot with heavy precipitation. Patricia Sanchez, a meteorologist with the weather service’s Fort Worth office, said there were reports of flooding in areas further south near Alvarado and Waxahachie, as well as further east near Rockwall and in Kaufman County.
Parts of Fort Worth and Arlington received comparatively lighter precipitation, close to an inch of rain across Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Sanchez said the divergence in rain totals has, in recent weeks, mostly come from slow-moving storms. Rain clouds can dump more water in a specific spot when winds are slower, which she said is common as weather patterns transition from spring to summer.
Multiple rounds of storms, as North Texas saw this weekend, can further exacerbate that pattern.
