A unique community event during Fort Worth’s Juneteenth celebrations aimed at strengthening relationships between residents and law enforcement is set to take place later this month.
Not only is the event free to attend, but the food and drinks are free.
The Soul of Sycamore Juneteenth Taste of Eastside “Cops vs. Community” Cookoff Competition will be held Saturday, June 20, at Sycamore Park, located at 2525 E. Rosedale St. The event begins at 1 p.m.
Organizers say the cookoff is designed to bring police officers and community members together in a fun and family-friendly environment while celebrating Juneteenth and the rich culture of Fort Worth’s historic Eastside.
This is the third year for the competitive event. Last year, two Fort Worth officers and a Forest Hill officer, along with three community cooks, earned winner’s spots.
The event’s theme, “Bridging the Gap Between Community and Police,” highlights efforts to foster stronger connections, open dialogue, and mutual understanding through food, fellowship, and friendly competition.
Teams representing local law enforcement agencies and community members will compete in a cookoff showdown again, giving attendees an opportunity to sample food, interact with participants, and celebrate the holiday together.
The event is being organized by Soul of Sycamore in partnership with the Community Engagement Unit. Organizers hope the gathering will create positive interactions between officers and residents while showcasing the spirit and traditions of the Eastside community. The event is open to everyone citywide.
