Verizon restores voice service after West Texas outage; data disruptions continue

MIDLAND-ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – Verizon says it has restored voice calling service for customers affected by a wireless outage in West Texas, but some users may continue to experience slower data speeds and dropped data connections as crews work to fully resolve the issue.

The company said fiber cuts earlier Tuesday caused a disruption to wireless service across parts of the region.

Some Verizon customers reported seeing “SOS” displayed on their phones, indicating they may have been affected by the outage.

According to the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office, Verizon reported a data, voice and text service outage that began at around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Verizon said the estimated restoration timeframe was 12 to 14 hours.

The outage affected customers across portions of West Texas, though Verizon has not specified the total number of customers impacted.

As of Tuesday, the company said voice service had been restored, while work continued to address remaining data-related issues.
