Texans’ favorite grocery store is investing millions of dollars into upgrading its popular grab-and-go food options. H-E-B recently set plans for nearly a dozen stores across the Lone Star State, including a few in Central Texas, to receive new renovations this year.
The San Antonio-based grocery chain will spend $1.7 million to renovate four of its Austin-area stores for its latest “Fresh Initiative” program. An H-E-B spokesperson told MySA that the initiatives consist of adding equipment to support hot food programs at each location.
In some cases, the renovations are being planned to support the expansion of H-E-B’s Meal Simple section. H-E-B submitted 11 construction projects with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) on Friday, June 5, for “Fresh Initiative” plans at its stores in the Austin-area, San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi, Georgetown, Leander, Kingwood, Killeen and Kerrville.
Although each store’s TDLR filing has its own price tag attached to the upgrades, they all share the same scope of work and are expected to begin construction this year.
The company’s Austin-area stores that will receive “Fresh Initiatives” upgrades include its South Congress and Canyon Ridge locations, a Leander convenience store and an outpost in Georgetown. A TDLR for H-E-B’s store at 8801 South Congress Avenue reveals it will receive a minor interior remodel to the tune of $470,000.
Construction on the 350-square-foot space is expected to begin in September and is slated to wrap by late October. A TDLR for the H-E-B located at 500 Canyon Ridge says its 315-square-foot space will be constructed in the same timeframe as the South Congress store’s refresh, but will cost $502,000 to complete.
The H-E-B in Georgetown at 1010 West University Avenue will also receive a $502,000 “Fresh Initiative” upgrade. Construction on the 330-square-foot space will start in August and is supposed to be finished by mid-September.
H-E-B’s Leander convenience store is set to receive a $300,000 remodel of a smaller, 110-square-foot space. Work on that project is also expected to begin in August and has a completion date of mid-September.
