EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A murder charge filed against an East El Paso man in connection with a deadly shooting at an apartment complex has been dismissed after a grand jury declined to indict him.
Court records show that the case against 21-year-old Jaeveyin Antonio Porter was dismissed on Jan. 22.
Porter was arrested in November 2025 following a deadly shooting at the La Estancia apartment complex in the 7900 block of Viscount Boulevard.
El Paso police alleged that Porter fatally shot 36-year-old Miguel Garcia during a dispute that investigators said stemmed from an ongoing family conflict.
Police had charged Porter with murder after the Nov. 2 shooting.

According to investigators at the time, the incident occurred after an argument involving Porter, his wife and Garcia, who was identified as the woman’s uncle.
Authorities said Garcia had gone to the apartment complex to help intervene in the dispute before the confrontation turned deadly.
Porter was taken into custody shortly after the shooting and booked on the murder charge.
With the grand jury declining to indict Porter, prosecutors are unable to pursue the murder charge based on the evidence presented in the case.
The dismissal closes the criminal case unless new evidence emerges and the matter is presented to a future grand jury.
