Edie Brickell and New Bohemians have been mostly quiet since the 2023 death of bassist Brad Houser. But the singer and former New Bo’s drummer Matt Chamberlain have chirped up with World Famous Pets, a new side project that also includes L.A. musicians Kaveh Rastegar (bass) and Mason Stoops (guitar).
The Pets just released a high-spirited single, “Maybe Somehow,” which they’ll play Oct. 9 at Austin City Limits Music Festival — a short drive from Wimberley, where Brickell lives part-time with husband Paul Simon. No word yet on a full Pets album or a Dallas date, as Brickell and Chamberlain are busy performing in Simon’s band on his “Quiet Celebration Tour.” The rock legend brought his low-key un-retirement show to the Winspear Opera House in 2025 with compelling results. This summer, he’s trying it out in big outdoor venues.
In other Brickell news, the singer popped up on Steep Canyon Rangers’ latest album, dueting on “Halfway to Reno.” She and the Rangers are old teammates: They played on Love Has Come for You before touring with her and Steve Martin in 2014, the year the title track won the duo a Grammy for American roots song.
