There are few things more transcendent than a post-work happy hour that involves gabbing with your girlfriends, spilling some tea and nursing an ice-cold cocktail or mocktail of choice. But that, paired with a classic, Texas-sized Wagyu burger? Talk about girl dinner.
My quest for Austin’s latest meal deal took me to Holiday, an effervescent cocktail bar on Austin’s eastside that features front and back patios, a sunshine-laden interior seating area, and the kinds of cocktails that will have you double-checking whether you’re drinking a beverage hand-delivered from the gods themselves.
Earlier this year, Holiday upped the ante and debuted its weekly happy meal deal, which offers guests a single-patty Wagyu smashburger, a side of french fries and their choice between a miniature Spaghett or a Carrie Bradshaw-approved Cosmopolitan.
Naturally, as a self-proclaimed girl dinner enthusiast who worships at the altar of all things Sex and the City, I had to put this to the test myself. Armed with my best gal pal and a penchant for a thirst-quenching drink on a scorcher of a Wednesday evening, we met up after work and experienced, dare I say, nothing short of heaven on Earth.
The Wagyu smashburger comes wedged between a sesame seed-laden bun and topped with pickles, jalapeños and a secret sauce. The dainty Cosmopolitan? Quite simply, chic. Combined with Holiday’s daily happy hour deal offering half of frozen cocktails between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays, we paired our entrees with a Frozen Saturn, befit with beefeater gin, passion fruit, lemon, almond orgeat and falernum for a taste of summer in a glass.
Wanting to lean into your martini-loving ways? The Austin staple, a Mexican martini, is served frozen and marries código blanco tequila, triple sec, lime, olive brine and salt.
Signed, sealed, delivered — and delicious.
