WEBB COUNTY, Tex. (KGNS) – Webb County deputies disrupted another suspected human smuggling attempt under Operation Lone Star.
It happened just before 6 p.m. Tuesday along an interstate access road near mile marker 33, where officials say people use it to avoid the Border Patrol checkpoint.
Deputies say they stopped a gray Lincoln SUV and noticed several people in the back seats leaning forward with their heads down, appearing to hide.
The driver, 42-year-old Jennifer Christina Stegall of San Antonio, allegedly told deputies all five passengers were in the country illegally.
She was arrested on five counts of human smuggling. The five undocumented immigrants were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol.
Stegall was booked into the Webb County Jail.
