San Antonians will see a new face on TV when they watch the weather forecast, but one station’s newest meteorologist is no stranger to the Alamo City.
KSAT 12 just welcomed meteorologist Leah Rodriguez to the Weather Authority team early this month. Born in San Antonio, Rodriguez grew up in Pearsall, a small town southwest of the city. The Texas A&M University alumnus started at the station as an intern in 2023 and graduated from college in 2024 with a degree in meteorology. Most recently, Rodriguez has spent the last two years at KLBK in Lubbock and is currently working towards a master’s in Geographic Information Science from Texas A&M.
In a May 24 Facebook post, she wrote, “It has been such a fun time forecasting for you West Texas! Thank you so much for trusting me to ease all your weather worries! Stick with me to see what adventure comes next!” Announcing that she’d officially left Lubbock a few days later, she posted selfies with her new dog, Luby, whom she called “my little piece of West Texas.”
According to her staff bio, Rodriguez realized her passion for the weather in elementary school after getting stuck in a storm with baseball-sized hail while her dad was driving them home. However, when she’s not doing the forecast, her bio says she enjoys shopping with her mom, hitting up Tex-Mex restaurants or taking Luby for walks and car rides.
A spokesperson for KSAT 12 told MySA in an email, “We are excited to welcome back Leah as a member of the most experienced weather team in South Texas.”
“As a former intern, Leah’s history of tracking Texas weather and her knowledge of San Antonio, being from right up the road in Pearsall, adds to the overall expertise of our Weather Authority team,” the spokesperson said. “We’re so glad she is back at KSAT and keeping South Texans informed and safe.”
