One of the region’s longest-running Independence Day traditions is reaching a major milestone this summer.
The City of Schertz will celebrate the 50th Annual Fourth of July Jubilee July 3-4, marking five decades of community festivities while also commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. To honor the occasion, city officials have expanded the free annual event into a special two-day celebration packed with live entertainment, family activities and patriotic traditions, including a free headlining performance from the Josh Abbott Band, according to a news release.
The Texas country group will perform on Friday, July 3, as part of the city’s 50th Annual Fourth of July Jubilee, a two-day celebration that coincides with America’s 250th anniversary. City officials have expanded the annual event for 2026, adding an extra day of festivities to commemorate the occasion.
The celebration begins at 6 p.m. on July 3 at Pickrell Park with carnival rides, community activities and live music. The Josh Abbott Band is scheduled to take the stage at 8:30 p.m. The Lubbock-based band has released seven studio albums during its two-decade career.
Events continue on Saturday, July 4, with the annual “Let Freedom Run” 5K at 9:15 a.m. and the city’s Independence Day parade at 9:30 a.m. The carnival will open at 11 a.m. at Thulemeyer Park and operate throughout the day.
Evening activities resume at 6 p.m. with live music from The After Party Band before an expanded fireworks display begins at approximately 9:15 p.m. The celebration will also include a historic aircraft flyover presented by the Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing.
Food and beverage vendors will be on-site throughout the event, and limited-edition 50th anniversary Jubilee merchandise will be available for purchase while supplies last.
The Schertz Fourth of July Jubilee has been a community tradition for five decades, drawing residents and visitors for a mix of patriotic celebrations, entertainment and family-friendly activities. This year’s event marks the first time the city has expanded the celebration into a special two-day format to recognize both the Jubilee’s 50th anniversary and the nation’s semiquincentennial.
