Class is in session, y’all.
The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) released its 2026 roundup of the best universities in the world, reviewing more than 21,000 higher education institutions before whittling those down to the Top 2,000. UT Austin aced that ranking with flying colors, nabbing a Top 50 finish among some of the most famous and renowned destinations for higher learning.
The University of Texas at Austin cinched a No. 35 placement on CWUR’s list, representing a staggering top 0.2% finish among universities in the world. Nationally, it continued its competitive streak against other schools in the United States, ranking No. 22 when filtered by country. With an overall score of 86.2 out of 100, CWUR’s analysis gave specific praise to UT’s faculty, ranking it No. 13.
It marked the only Texas university to break into the Top 50 ranks. As for the Top 10 overall? Those titles largely belonged to coastal universities in the U.S., alongside some European institutions sprinkled into the mix.
The closest Texas follow-up to UT? The UT Southwestern Medical Center, located in Dallas, earned a No. 69 finish among the top 2,000 institutions.
