The NBA championship is within the Knicks’ grasp.

Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals tips off at 8:30 p.m. ET where the Knicks will look to close out the series.

After a heart-stopping 107-106 victory by New York in Game 4 at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks are one win away from their first championship since 1973.

Now, the scene shifts back to San Antonio, where the Spurs find themselves backed into a corner, fighting to keep their season alive.

Forget celeb row, comedian Jon Stewart was spotted taking in the Knicks game in a crowd of regular folks gathered at a watch party in the West Village.

The former “The Daily Show” host was seen wearing a Knicks hat by eagle-eyed fans, according to a post on X.

Seen standing with Stewart is comedian Robert Smigel, former SNL writer and creator of Triumph Insult Comic Dog.

Vassell makes a short jumper at the horn to give the Spurs a bit more breathing room, but the Knicks have clawed their way back into the contest after trailing by as much as 16.

Unsurprisingly, the non-Wemby minutes haven’t gone great for the Spurs, but the fact that he’s only played 17 of a possible 24 minutes in a must-win game is a bit befuddling.

Yep, it’s a flagrant on Fox – Hart makes his free throw and then Bridges sinks a floater to make it just a three-point lead for the Spurs.

Fox has made some brutal decisions this series, and that was another one that ended in a five-point Knicks possesion.

It’s yet another poor decision from Fox, who shoves Hart in the back while the Knicks forward is attempting a layup.

Hart makes the layup, and will get a free throw, but this may get upgraded to a flagrant.

Three fouls on Towns

Once again, Towns has found himself in foul trouble as he picks up his third of the game on a Spurs drive.

That will once again present a conundrum for Knicks coach Mike Brown, though the Knicks have cut it to a 6-point deficit with just 2:34 remaining in the period.

It was a slow start for the Knicks guard, but he’s up to 15 points after making a pair of midrange jumpers.

And just like that, it’s only a 7-point game with about four minutes left in the quarter.

We’ve heard that before. Towns is given a second foul, Wemby still has just one, and it’s another big (and correct) decision from Johnson.

Spurs lead up to 16… and a challenge

Wemby rises up over Towns and hits a three, giving San Antonio a game-high 16 point lead.

However, on the other end, Wemby is called for his second foul on Towns (not for the first time this series) after the pair jostled for position. Mitch Johnson just challenged the call, and it’s possible refs will agree that Towns hooked his opponent with his arm.

Alvarado attempts a corner three over Wemby and well, it goes as well as you would expect.

He notched his fourth block of the game as he swatted the shot away – before stuffing Landry Shamet moments later.

Spurs lead by 10 after one

We’ve seen this movie before. The Spurs lead 23-13 after the first quarter, with the Knicks shooting an absolutely frigid 4-of-22 from the field.

Given those struggles, they’ll probably be OK with only being down 10, but the Spurs have brought intensity and defense early.

The Knicks have surely used former Spur Jeremy Sochan as a resource this series against his old team, though I’m not sure trash-talking Wemby (as seen below) is really part of that job description.
