The NBA Finals have been contentious to say the least. There have been flagrant fouls. There have been fans literally assaulted in the streets of New York. And plenty of companies have decided to throw their hat behind either team regardless of location. Case in point…Wingstop seemingly threw their support behind New York with a two-word post on Facebook and Twitter ahead of Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

This is where things get awkward. Founded in Garland in North Texas and currently headquartered in Dallas, Wingstop is decidedly a Texas company.

The decision to support the Knicks has caused an uproar in the comment section where thousands of Spurs fans are showing their disdain.

“Wingstop is disgusting & trash anyways just like NEW YORK.. GO SPURS,” Rosalinda Garcia noted.

Another user, Mayra Salinas, chimed in with, “Absolutely NOT wing stop! Where is the support for SPURS?!”

Stuart Mann is worried about the marketing team member who posted that, saying “Someone in marketing is getting fired.”

Still, other more regional Texas companies are coming out the victor as Spurs fans throw their support behind them instead of Wingstop.

“Pluckers it is,” one user said, while another noted Fried Hard on Grayson, and another suggested Wayne’s Wings as a far better option to the Dallas-based wing shop.

Joanne Monique Torres said, “Let’s go local San Antonio Wayne’s Wings— Spurs players prefer them anyway.”

It’s been almost 15 years to the day that the Dallas Mavericks earned their first and only NBA Championship, so maybe Wingstop is feeling more camaraderie to the Knicks who haven’t won a championship in more than 50 years.

Wingstop has more than 2,700 locations worldwide, with more than 400 in Texas alone and more than 20 of those in San Antonio — for now.
