The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs (51-12) open their College World Series against the No. 6 Texas Longhorns (45-13). Georgia and Texas did not meet during the SEC regular season or during the SEC Tournament. Now, both programs play in their most important game of the season.
The winner of the Georgia-Texas game will have a much easier path to the national championship series while the loser will have to try to stave off elimination in their next game. The College World Series has a double-elimination format.
Texas is coming off a super regional win over Oregon while Georgia beat Mississippi State to win the Athens Super Regional. Texas All-American pitcher Dylan Volantis (10-1, 2.01 ERA) is expected to start against Georgia.
The Dawgs, who lead the country in home runs, have a powerful line up led by catcher Daniel Jackson. Georgia is expected to start pitcher Joey Volchko (10-2, 4.07 ERA). UGA has won 19 of 20 games entering the Texas contest.

TeamA vsTeamB will broadcast nationally on ESPN in the opening game of the College World Series for both teams. Karl Ravech, Kyle Peterson, Kris Budden and Chris Burke will call the game from the booth at Charles Schwab Field.
