A driver died when he crashed into the back of a parked semitrailer on a street in the far East Side, El Paso police said.
Ricardo Martinez, 28, of Horizon City, died from his injuries in a crash that occurred about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, June 13, in an industrial area in the 1300 block of Don Haskins Drive, stated a news release by El Paso police spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo.

Martinez was driving a 2007 Nissan Xterra eastbound on Don Haskins Drive when he rammed into the back of a trailer, which police noted was “properly parked” facing east on Don Haskins Drive, the news release stated.
Speed is believed to a be a factor in the crash, police said. An investigation by the Special Traffic Investigations Unit continues.

This was the 21st traffic-related death in El Paso this year compared with 28 at the same time last year, according to Police Department numbers.
