Thousands of CPS Energy customers across San Antonio were left without power early Monday after a cold front hit the the area, bringing strong storms and severe weather.
A CPS Energy outage map shows 9,789 customers are currently without power due to 76 active outages as of 7:10 a.m. on Monday, June 15. CPS Energy wrote on X around 6:00 a.m. that the weather-related outages were only impacting about 126 customers. That number quickly spiked as storms entered San Antonio.
“Our crews are working to restore power; however, flooded roads and hazardous conditions may limit their access and delay our restoration efforts. Crew safety remains our top priority as they respond to weather-related outages across the service area,” CPS Energy wrote.
The utility agency also shared that the CPS Energy customer walk-in centers will delay opening until noon today.
As flooding concerns increased for the San Antonio area, especially for the morning commute, the National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning until 10:45 a.m.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for South-Central Texas from 7 p.m. this evening through 7 p.m. Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is expected across the region, with some locations potentially seeing more than 8 inches of rain. Forcasters say rainfall rates could overwhelm drainage systems and trigger dangerous, life-threatening flash flooding.
