BOSTON — The Rangers have used eight outfielders in a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
That shouldn’t be interpreted as a surplus.
“Without Carter, and without Helman, those are our two options,” Schumaker said. “You’re going to see different guys go out there. We could be mix and match quite honestly.”
Schumaker said that Osuna, who has one career big league start at the position, and infielder Ezequiel Duran, who has zero, will likely see time in center field. Left fielder Wyatt Langford has the ability to play the position, and while Schumaker acknowledged that the 24-year-old could find his way into the middle in late-game scenarios for defensive purposes or after the lineup flips out based on matchups, it may be considered unlikely that he starts games there.
“We want to keep Wyatt healthy,” Schumaker said. “Throwing him out at multiple positions, at Globe Life Field, on turf, all of that factored in, I’m just not sure what the right move is.”
