Storms are raging across South-Central Texas on Monday, June 15. Several San Antonio streets are shut down due to life-threatening flooding conditions.
The San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) has responded to 20 water rescues and investigations, according to marketing manager Woody Woodward. Authorities told MySA that none of the rescues required hospital transport or resulted in significant injuries.
Per the SAFD report, calls started coming in at 6:03 a.m. and continued through 8:13 a.m. Many of the incidents happened on the city’s busiest highways. Six occurred along Loop 1604, which spans roughly 94 miles around town. Some of the areas crews were dispatched to include N. Loop 1604 W. at Military Drive and the W. Loop 1604 N. Access Road.
Drivers experienced a major disruption on Loop 410 at Jackson Keller Road from around 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. when a rescue temporarily closed all four westbound lanes. The lanes have since reopened, according to the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Transguide system.
Two other rescues occurred on N. Ellison Drive near SeaWorld, and one occurred on U.S. Highway 281 N. The department reported one on Highway 90 W. at Cupples Road and multiple on I-10 W.
Residents should remain alert while traveling. A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for southeastern Maverick County until 4 p.m. Monday. A Flood Watch is in effect for San Antonio until 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16.
Between 4 and 7 inches of rain have already fallen in the area covered by the Flood Warning issued this morning. According to the agency, up to 1 inch of additional rainfall is possible.
