LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Texas archivist community is remembering the legacy of renowned historian and author Thomas Lindsay “T. Lindsay” Baker.
He died in a car crash in Flagstaff, Arizona Thursday. He was a representative of the Lone Star State in the Route 66 Centennial Caravan.
Baker was a long-time member of the Texas State Historical Association and was known as a “dean of Texas historians,” a title only few highly respected scholars hold.
According to the university’s special collections library, Baker earned his bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Texas Tech. He later started his educational career at Tech teaching history before moving on to Baylor and later Tarleton State.
He also worked at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, where he was the curator of science and technology.
Baker was 79 years old.
