According to a WARN Notice, Saks Global has notified state and local officials that 67 workers will be laid off by Sept. 30, when the store is scheduled to close permanently.
The filing includes employees who may ultimately be offered transfers to the company’s NorthPark Center location. Saks Global also told Chron in an email that transfer discussions are still ongoing and that it expects to offer opportunities to a significant percentage of affected workers. Additionally, eligible employees who are not transferred will be offered separation packages.
“After a thorough evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to close the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas store on September 30, 2026, and concentrate our resources where our customers prefer to shop,” a Saks Global spokesperson told WFAA.
The closure marks the end of a more than a century-long presence in downtown Dallas. Founded in the city in 1907, Neiman Marcus has operated from its Main Street and Ervay Street location since rebuilding after a fire destroyed its original store in 1914.
The layoffs also come as downtown Dallas continues to lose several of its highest-profile corporate and entertainment anchors. As Chron previously reported, AT&T plans to move its headquarters to Plano, while both the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks have announced plans to leave their longtime downtown homes.
Saks Global, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, has already announced broader cost-cutting efforts, including layoffs affecting more than 1,200 employees and reductions at Neiman Marcus locations nationwide, according to WFAA.
While the downtown flagship is closing, the company said it plans to focus resources on other North Texas locations, including its store at NorthPark Center.
