H-E-B is ready to open its next store in North Texas, and this one is the first in Dallas County.
The San Antonio-based grocer is opening its namesake store on Wednesday in Irving, even as it operates other brands, including Central Market and Joe V’s Smart Shop, in the county. The new store is located near the intersection of West Interstate Highway 635 and Olympus Boulevard.
The new retail shop covers more than 110,000 square feet and is loaded with many of the usual items and features shoppers expect, including produce, a pharmacy, dairy and seafood. Yet visitors also can find a heavier emphasis on South Asian food as it caters to shoppers with ties to that part of the world.
“H-E-B is always going to tailor to our community,” said Juan-Carlos Ruck, executive vice president, North West food/drug and H-E-B real estate, in an interview.
That includes hot-and-ready food near a main entrance where customers will find meals that include butter chicken and naan with ghee, along with other options. There’s also a large vegetable section with curry leaves and Indian eggplant. Other parts of the store feature tea, rice and other items.
The company is ramping up in North Texas as it adds more stores that help it compete against Kroger, Walmart, Tom Thumb and others. The company opened an H-E-B site in the Euless area last month and is set to open other stores in cities such as Dallas.
