An action star from the 1980s can trace his roots back all the way to the Alamo City, and he’s sure to remember that. While most people may know him better as Alex Murphy, the titular RoboCop, Peter Weller remains a Texan at heart and knows to stop by for some barbecue when visiting home.
“Now I’m sitting here in Rudy’s, in Texas. Yes, in San Antonio, which I consider a hometown. Where essentially I grew up,” Weller said in the Instagram video that has been viewed more than 81,000 times.
Weller took a video of his friends eating “brisket and pig bones” while also praising Rudy’s and all things Texas barbecue, and captioned it “Texas BBQ vs. anything else.”
“It’s great barbecue in San Antonio, Texas. I get in this argument with my wife all the time because she talks about Georgia and South Carolina barbecue,” Weller said. “And I got to say, I didn’t see no cattle drives in Georgia or South Carolina, that’s all I’ve got to say about Texas barbecue versus anything else. Texas, got it?”

Weller was born in Wisconsin but moved to San Antonio because of his father’s Army service, and he eventually graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1965. He went on to graduate from the University of North Texas, but ironically, his breakout role was also filmed in the Lone Star State. RoboCop may take place in a futuristic Detroit, but it was filmed almost entirely in Dallas.
