Decision 2026: Interview with former city councilman Gary Boren

  • June 17, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – In our continuing coverage of the Lubbock City Council special election, we’re hearing from candidate Gary Boren.

Boren says he is running on experience. He served on the Lubbock City Council in the early 2000s. He also served on the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees and now on the Brazos River Authority.

When Boren last served on the Lubbock City Council, he abruptly resigned in March of 2007.

Boren won a court decision over the City of Lubbock to be on this ballot. The city did not think he’d lived in District 4 long enough.

Early voting for this special election runs through Tuesday, June 23. Election day is June 27.

Other candidates include:

Bill Curnow Stephanie FerranTim GreenBoyd Goodloe
