Morgan Wood, Lady Movin’ Mavs head coach, began her career as a player for the team in 2013.
UTA announced Tuesday that Morgan Wood will step down as head coach of the Lady Movin’ Mavs.
Wood has been the coach of the women’s wheelchair basketball team since 2022 and was notably the first-ever player recruited to the team, according to previous Shorthorn reporting.
Wood won two national championships with UTA as a player in 2016 and 2018 and led the team to four runner-up finishes in a row in her four full years as a coach.
In Wood’s final season as coach, the Lady Movin’ Mavs entered the national tournament as the second seed and won their semifinal matchup against No. 3 University of Arizona. The team then, for the fourth season in a row, lost the National Championship to No. 1 The University of Alabama.

“This program will always be close to my heart,” Wood said in the press release. “I truly believe this program has one of the best groups of athletes that it’s had in a very long time.”
A press release from UTA Athletics said Wood is stepping down to move closer to family as she raises an infant son. Wood grew up in Gordonsville, Tennessee.
Wood will stay in the position until July 31 to ease the program’s transition. The press release said the search for the third head coach in Lady Movin’ Mavs history is underway.
