A Houston man is facing a murder charge after his girlfriend was allegedly run over and killed this weekend, and her family says they’re still struggling to make sense of how someone who claimed to love her could leave her behind.

Rudolfo Pinon, 25, is charged with murder and failure to stop and render aid in the death of 26-year-old Galilea Adan. He was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene, and is now behind bars awaiting his next court date.

Adan’s family is devastated, and they’re hoping the case brings them some sense of justice.

“We are mad, angry, in denial. So many emotions we are going through,” her cousin, Kimberly Trujillo told KHOU 11.

According to court documents, Adan, Pinon and two other people had left a club together when an argument broke out. The documents state the group had been kicked out of the club because Pinon was intoxicated.

Houston police say the driver pulled over at some point and everyone got out of the vehicle. Court documents state the other couple walked away from the scene. That’s when documents say Pinon got back into the car, allegedly hit Adan with the vehicle, and drove off.

Adan died Sunday morning.

Her family says they can’t understand how Pinon could leave her there.

“If you truly loved her, how do you do that to someone?” Trujillo asked. “How do you leave her there without any remorse, any respect for her?”

Family members say Adan and Pinon had recently moved in together, and they’re struggling to understand why he didn’t call 911 if her death was truly an accident.

“If it truly was an accident, as he claims, as a man, why not come forward to the family? Like we say in Spanish, da la cara. There are consequences,” Trujillo said.

Adan’s family says she dreamed of one day owning her own hair salon, a dream now cut short. They describe her as a sweet, kind young woman who was gone far too soon.

“We want to share her story and we get justice, and we pray to God that she will do that for us,” Kiara Vega, a cousin said.

Pinon’s court appearance is set for Thursday, June 25. His bond on the failure to stop and render aid charge has been set at $75,000. No bond has been set on the murder charge.
